How Protected Trust™ Works
Sending a message
If you are an Outlook user, simply create a new message. Compose
your message as you normally would. You can even add attachments.
Click Send, and then log in to Protected Trust. Next, you choose
how you want your recipient to identify him or herself. You can ask
the user to just use his or her own Protected Trust credentials,
or, you can ask the user to answer a secret question or respond to
a phone call or text message. You message will then be encrypted
and sent to the recipient.
Outlook users should download
the Outlook add-in for this seamless integration.
If you want to send a message through the Protected Trust web
site, the steps are almost the same. Just login, type your message,
click Send, and specify how the recipient is to identify himself or
herself. It's simple!
The message is scrambled using the very strong AES encryption algorithm
with a 256-bit key. The Protected Trust™ server then
keeps the key safe from unauthorized users.
Receiving a message
If you are an Outlook user, just open the message as you
normally would. Protected messages are shown with a special icon
(
).
You'll be asked to log in (if you haven't already) and possibly to
answer the sender's secret question or respond to an automated
phone call or text message. The message will be decrypted and you
can now read it and even reply to it.
Outlook users should download
the Outlook add-in for this seamless integration.
If you are not an Outlook user, you will receive a notification
e-mail with a link to the Protected Trust web site. Just click on
the link, log in, and possibly answer the sender's secret question
or respond to the phone call or text message. You can now reply to
the sender's message by simply clicking Reply.
